The trust switched to CSC's A&E solution in 2010 so all clinical staff at the Darent Valley Hospital now order radiology and pathology tests online. A&E accounts for 30% of all hospital tests. The move followed an upgrade of CSC's PatientCentre patient administration system. In September 2010, the trust ordered Savience touch-screen kiosks to cut queues at its fracture clinic and outpatient reception and so reduce the administrative burden on nurses and receptionists. The investment in patient kiosks was recouped within four months, after the system helped it meet a smoking cessation referral target and so secure extra funding from its strategic health authority.
