The use of clinical safety standards for IT within health and social care means that potential risks are identified in advance and dealt with before a system or product comes into use.

  • are equipped to comply with clinical safety expectations within their own workplace/organisation
  • understand that there are also national and international standards relating to clinical safety in place, which they and their must also comply with.

Why you should take this course:

  • DSCN18/2009: compliance with DSCN18/2009 is obligatory for all trusts across the UK
  • Business and patient risk mitigation – the more informed and proficient your staff are in identifying and mitigating potential risks, the more confident your organisation can be that such risks are less likely to occur, and where they do arise, will be dealt with swiftly
  • The numbers of clinical negligence claims are rising - “the number of clinical negligence claims reported to the Authority in 2009/10 was 6,652 which represents a 10% increase over 2008/09 which, in turn recorded an 11% increase over 2007/08.
