HealthViews delivers a clinical information system for a progressive record of a patient’s care – from birth to death. The HealthViews solution radically extends the view of a patient’s record beyond what is held in a GP’s practice or hospital information systems. Clinicians across departments, geographic regions or even nations can interact with patient records in real time, 24 hours a day and from remote locations. In this way, care staff and patients themselves can have access to records across the continuum of care, improving clinician satisfaction and increasing patient safety.

Challenges

Health information that is identifiable at the individual patient level is sensitive and must be protected and managed in a secure environment while offering the clinician access to ‘need to know’ data. To meet this challenge, HealthViews provides a highly flexible security model, using a configurable system of locks and keys, including full audit trails. Security locks can be applied to HealthViews applications, functions, patient records and even to individual data elements within records. A user’s security profile defines a set of keys (a virtual key-ring) through which the user can access appropriate information and transactions within the patient record environment.

Using the HealthViews security model, patients and their caregivers can be given direct access to their own records, and can use the context of their records to communicate with their care team. The ability to implement a solution that is clinician-friendly, flexible and requires minimal management overhead can have a significant impact on the total cost of ownership related to tracking, managing and delivering the right information to the right people at the right time.
