World-renowned classification
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that tens of millions of patients worldwide suffer disabling injuries or death every year due to unsafe medical practices and care. Nearly one in ten patients is harmed while receiving health care in well-funded and technologically advanced hospital settings. Half of all serious incidents are considered preventable.
Based on 20 years of research and use in over 1,000 facilities across the globe, AIMS is an interactive evidence-based management tool providing detailed information for devising interventions and solutions to address healthcare delivery incident problems.
AIMS captures, manages and analyses adverse event and near miss information across acute care, community care, mental health, primary, disability and residential aged care (nursing homes). With its comprehensive benchmarking and detailed analysis functionality, the solution is recognised by the WHO and the US Institute of Medicine.
Fully natively web-based for rapid and low cost deployment across large and small organisations, AIMS is available as either an on-demand service or for on-premise installation within a customer’s own site.
It can be easily integrated into customers’ patient and staff information systems to avoid double entry and improve data reliability. Customers can either define their own data capture forms or choose standard data capture forms for a simple and standardised approach.

Main features
Incident capture and management
Choose one of the best practice data capture forms for a simple and standardised approach, or create a fully customised form to exactly match your business processes. Capture of incident detail is standardised via the world-renowned AIMS classification.
Control the level of detail collected by defining a per incident type minimum dataset for classification. The maximum dataset (standard AIMS classification) is generally reserved for serious or targeted incidents. It is also useful for recording the detailed findings of Root Cause Analyses (RCA).
Views, analysis & reporting
Business intelligence and decision support tools enable a strategic approach to patient safety and quality improvement while simple yet powerful data views help managers to understand what is happening and take action. A flexible design option incorporates various views, filters and sorting on reports. There are three levels of analysis and reporting; Basic, Intermediate and Advanced.
The unique AIMS classification transforms free-text incident descriptions into actionable insights. The taxonomy includes over 24,000 concepts logically organised into 18 incident types. Business intelligence and decision support tools enable a strategic approach to patient safety and quality improvement while simple yet powerful data views help managers to understand what is happening and take action.
The AIMS classification conforms with best-practice approaches such as, the World Health Organisation’s International Classification for Patient Safety, the National Centre for Classification in Health (Australia) and the US Institute of Medicine.
AIMS classification
The unique AIMS classification transforms free-text incident descriptions into actionable data. The taxonomy includes over 24,000 concepts logically organised into 18 incident types and the classification can be further extended with specialty data sets (taxonomies) such as for Anaesthesiology, Obstetric Maternal, Obstetric Foetal, Ambulance/Retrieval, Radiology, and Dental.
System administration
Powerful administrator functionality includes distributed administration roles and minimum reliance on us for configuration and system maintenance. Administrators can define client-specific parameters like date ranges, codes displayed in pick lists and security groups, permissions and individual user accounts. Control over data access at various levels including module, function and field is possible, as is definition of system and data audit functions.
Alerts
To ensure that staff are informed of serious events or simply told of tasks they are required to complete following an event, AIMS provides sophisticated Alert functionality. Easy to create and manage, AIMS email¬-based Alerts inform relevant, client-defined staff instantly.
AIMS on-demand
AIMS version 4 is fully natively web-based and available as a software as a service (SaaS) or for on-site installation. Users access the application using a standard web browser. Benefits of accessing AIMS as a service are: reduced IT staffing cost and expertise; no investment in server hardware or software; automatic inclusion of all upgrades; rapid and efficient deployment across large and/ or geographically dispersed organisations; reduced risk; enablement of greater business rather than IT focus.
