iSOFT Medication Management solution solves doctor scribble

In a recent Canberra Times article Dr John Ainge discusses the need to replace old hand written medication charts often containing confusing scratching of doctors' writing, in an effort to eradicate errors in prescribing and administrating drugs to patients.

"One of the biggest challenges that causes a large majority of mistakes is doctors' writing," Dr Ainge said. "Doctors are really time-poor, not just GPs but everywhere. They tend to scribble, they use abbreviations, they don't fill things in properly, they don't give complete dosage instructions and the nurses have to try and interpret that."

By integrating prescription and patient information, dosage checking and timekeeping into a software management system, iSOFT Medication Management (MedChart) removes the most common errors in administering prescription medication in hospitals.

Used in hospitals and health-care facilities across Australia and New Zealand, and Dr Ainge expects to have four British hospitals using the software by the end of the year.
