The Challenge

Each year, 1,200 hospital carers serve 23,000 patients in 576 beds at Dritter Orden Hospital in the Munich district of Nymphenburg, While the hospital prides itself on delivering the highest quality of care, the use of isolated applications was impeding the efficiency of the hospitals x-ray department.

The Hospital sought to digitalise its x-ray department and create a hospital-wide network by implementing a radiology information system (RIS). iSOFT Radiology was the chosen solution

From the x-ray department to the theatre, iSOFT Radiology is a highly flexible and interoperable system delivering radiology support across a multi-user computer network. iSOFT’s solution offers a number of features that improved workflow efficiency to deliver significant time and cost savings. These included:-

• One click transfer of digital x-rays from the hospital information system to iSOFT Radiology’s Radiology  Information System (RIS)
• Ability of Physician to download x-ray images directly onto a notebook for use at patient bedside
• An Order/Entry module that allows nurses in the ward to register their patients for examination appointments in the x-ray department
• Creation of reports using voice recognition, digital dictation and the traditional text modules
• Integration of all examination devices with the hospital’s PACS (image archiving and communications system) allows patient information to be automatically shared and compared
• An HL7 interface with the hospital information system for data transmission
• Support for hierarchical release of all findings allows for confirmation of results by the chief physician before release

In the space of five years the Radiology Department at the Dritter Orden Hospital has become fully digitised. iSOFT has delivered the hospital a comprehensive solution covering their radiology needs from examination through to the ward and into the theatres.
